Water is life, and an effective irrigation system is essential for keeping gardens, food forests, and farms thriving. In this class, we’ll explore the principles of irrigation design, from understanding water sources and flow to mapping out zones and selecting the right methods for different crops and landscapes. Participants will gain hands-on experience setting up a mulched-over drip irrigation system—a simple, cost-effective, and resilient method that keeps tubing protected, reduces tampering, and maximizes efficiency.
Together, we’ll move from planning to practice: evaluating site conditions, laying out an irrigation design, assembling key components, and installing a working system. The goal is to make irrigation approachable and replicable, so participants leave confident in designing and installing systems for their own projects, whether small-scale gardens or larger community plots.
