About the event
This hands-on workshop focuses on the installation and long-term care of a community food forest in a shared public space. We’ll begin with a brief introduction to agroforestry systems and why food forests are a particularly effective model for integrating food production, ecological restoration, and community gathering.
Participants will learn about the site context, soil testing results, and the design approach guiding this project so everyone has a shared understanding of how and why planting decisions were made. The majority of the day will be spent outdoors putting these ideas into practice through hands-on planting, mulching, watering, and site preparation.
In the afternoon, community volunteers will join the group, and workshop participants will help guide volunteers through the planting process, reinforcing skills while building shared stewardship of the space. We’ll close the day with a conversation about long-term care, maintenance, and community responsibility, followed by a casual celebration to thank…
