Designing a food forest is more than just planting trees. It’s about creating a resilient ecosystem that supports people, plants, and the land. In this class, we’ll begin with a site walk to observe the landscape firsthand, paying attention to soil, water, sun, slope, and existing vegetation. From there, we’ll return to a warm indoor space to discuss the implications of what we’ve seen and move through the collaborative design process together.
Participants will learn how to translate site conditions into design considerations, explore key elements of food forest planning such as layers, guilds, access, and water management, and engage in group brainstorming to sketch ideas for a functional and inspiring design.
