Agroforestry weaves together trees, crops, and community to create resilient landscapes that support both people and the land. In this class, we’ll begin by exploring the fundamentals of agroforestry: what it is, how it works, and why it matters. Participants will learn about different agroforestry systems such as food forests, alley cropping, silvopasture, riparian buffers, and the ecological and cultural benefits they provide, from soil health to biodiversity to long-term food security.
From there, we’ll head outside to put these concepts into practice with a hands-on fruit tree planting session. We’ll cover everything you need to know to successfully establish fruit trees, including site evaluation, digging and preparing planting holes, handling roots, mulching, watering, and tree protection.
